Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X175S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X175S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 175mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X175S

The AirTAC SAILB200X175-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This safety mechanism engages a pin into the 40mm carbon steel rod exclusively when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the load without requiring live air pressure. It delivers a robust 15708N push force at 0.5 MPa, making it ideal for heavy-duty power-loss safety applications.

This model includes a magnet (-S) for precise position detection using AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state sensors. To accommodate the locking hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (28mm) compared to the free end (50mm). The lock releases automatically via air supply to the release port or manually via a lever, providing flexible operation for high-tonnage holding tasks.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X175S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Power-Loss Safety

Secures massive vertical loads in the retracted position instantly if air pressure drops, preventing catastrophic drops in heavy machinery.

shield

Press Hold at Stroke End

Maintains high-tonnage clamping force at the rod-in terminal without consuming continuous compressed air, saving energy during long hold cycles.

lock

Gate and Guard Locking

Reliably locks heavy safety gates or machine guards in the closed position using the back-cover lock until an air signal authorizes release.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X175S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore cylinder when an application demands immense thrust (up to 15708N push at 0.5 MPa) and a fail-safe hold at the rod-in position; if a lesser force is acceptable, stepping down to a 160mm bore yields 10053N push. Choose the SAILB configuration specifically to secure the retracted stroke end, whereas a SAILF variant would hold the extended end. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a terminal position, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

Because this is a static holding lock that engages only after the cylinder stops, it will not act as a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For any safety-critical lifting scenario where human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent mechanical safety measure as well. Ensure your replacement matches the 200mm bore, 175mm stroke, back locker position, PT tapered ports, and -S magnet. Furthermore, for a 175mm stroke, ensure adequate external guide rails to manage side loads and protect the rod seals.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X175S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 200mm bore cylinder provides a push force of 15708N and a pull force of 15080N. It achieves a maximum push force of 3204 kgf at its 1.0 MPa pressure limit.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the rod stops, not a mid-stroke clamp or dynamic brake. It unlocks automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, and requires an independent-exhaust solenoid valve to prevent back-pressure from releasing the pin.
