Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X600S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X600S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 600mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X600S

The AirTAC SAILB200X600-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover. This lock safely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end, maintaining the load without requiring live pressure. Built with a carbon steel rod and a magnetic piston for use with CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors, it delivers a robust 15080N pull force at 0.5 MPa and reaches a maximum 3204 kgf at 1.0 MPa.

Because the lock engages statically after the cylinder stops, it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. The locker-end air cushion is 28 mm, which is shorter than the 50 mm cushion on the free end. Always avoid fast-exhaust valves with this cylinder; back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Heavy Lift Safety Hold

Secures massive lifted platforms in the retracted position instantly if air pressure drops, preventing sudden collapses in material handling systems.

precision_manufacturing

Press Clamp Retention

Maintains high-force clamping pressure at the rod-in stroke end during power loss, ensuring workpieces remain secured without relying on live air.

vertical_align_top

Overhead Gate Locking

Holds heavy vertical gates firmly in the closed retracted position, utilizing the back cover lock to eliminate the risk of gravity-driven falls.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X600S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200 mm bore cylinder when a machine requires heavy vertical load holding at the rod-in position during a power loss or emergency stop. If your application needs slightly less force, stepping down to a 160 mm bore yields 9425N of pull at 0.5 MPa. Choose the SAILB configuration specifically for securing retracted loads, whereas a SAILF variant holds the extended position. If your design requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

This model features a 600 mm stroke and a PT tapered 3/4 port. For any stroke of 300 mm or more, supporting the load with an external guide is recommended to prevent excessive side-load wear on the barrel and seals. Remember that safety-critical overhead loads require an independent secondary safety measure beyond the pneumatic lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X600S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the push force is 15708N and the pull force is 15080N. At the maximum rated pressure of 1.0 MPa, it achieves a maximum force of 3204 kgf.

The spring-applied, air-released lock sits in the back cover and engages statically to hold the rod at the retracted stroke end. It unlocks automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, but it cannot clamp at mid-stroke.
