Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X700S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X700S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 700mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X700S

The AirTAC SAILB200X700-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in its back cover. Because the lock resides in the back, it secures the rod specifically at the retracted stroke end. Delivering a 15080 N pull force at 0.5 MPa, this unit handles massive loads and features a carbon steel rod with PT threaded ports.

The integrated lock engages automatically when air pressure is cut, providing a static hold without live pressure. It is unlocked by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 28 mm, intentionally shorter than the 50 mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking hardware. For position sensing, the included -S magnet works seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state switches.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X700S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Safety

Holds massive vertical loads in the retracted position automatically during a power loss, preventing sudden drops.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Hold

Secures heavy fabrication parts at the end of the retraction stroke without consuming continuous live air pressure.

shield

Gate and Guard Locking

Keeps heavy industrial safety gates and guards firmly closed and locked until the air release is actively signaled.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X700S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200 mm bore when a heavy load demands extreme force, stepping up from a 160 mm bore that yields 9425 N pull at 0.5 MPa. Choose the SAILB configuration when the rod must be held in the retracted position; select a SAILF front-locker model if the extended end requires holding. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Remember that this lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: do not use a fast-exhaust valve, and utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, because back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock. For any human-safety dependent lifting application, add an independent mechanical safety measure. To replace this unit, match the 200 mm bore, 700 mm stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and -S magnet. Given the 700 mm stroke, ensure external guide rails are used to prevent excessive side-loading on the rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X700S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, this 200 mm bore cylinder provides 15708 N of push force and 15080 N of pull force. At the maximum operating pressure of 1.0 MPa, it achieves a top push force of 3204 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end to hold the load statically. It releases automatically via air pressure or manually via a lever, but it is not a mid-stroke clamp or a dynamic brake.
