Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X350S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X350S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 350mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X350S

The AirTAC SAILB63X350-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it safely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end without requiring live pressure. With a 63mm bore, it generates 1559N of push force at 0.5MPa, making it a robust choice for medium-duty holding tasks. The integrated -S magnet allows direct mounting of CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors along the dual-side barrel grooves.

Unlike a plain SAI cylinder, this unit provides true power-failure safety, though the lock engages only after the piston reaches the stroke terminal, not as a dynamic brake. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 21mm, intentionally shorter than the 30mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking hardware. The carbon steel rod and PT threaded ports provide durable, leak-free operation in industrial environments.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X350S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Prevents a raised vertical load from dropping when air pressure is lost, securing the rod in the retracted position.

lock

Clamp and Hold

Maintains a secure clamping force on a workpiece at the end of the stroke without consuming continuous compressed air.

build

Gate Positioning

Keeps heavy safety gates or machine guards firmly closed in the retracted state during power loss events.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X350S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 63mm bore model when an application requires 1559N of push force at 0.5MPa to move and hold a load at the retracted position. If your process demands less force, the 50mm bore offers 982N; if you need more holding power, the 80mm bore provides 2513N. Choose this SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the rod-in state; choose SAILF if the extended position needs holding. For applications requiring the load to be clamped at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

For a reliable replacement, match the 63mm bore, 350mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, and the -S magnet. Because the 350mm stroke exceeds 300mm, using a side-load guide is recommended to prevent rod bending. Remember that this is a static holding lock, not a moving-rod brake. Never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent mechanical safety measure as well.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X350S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this 63mm bore cylinder provides a push force of 1559N and a pull force of 1402N. At the maximum 1.0MPa operating pressure, it achieves a push force of 318kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, holding the load without live pressure. To unlock, you supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever. It only holds at this stroke end, not at mid-stroke.
