Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X150S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X150S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 150mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X150S

The AirTAC SAILB80X150-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock integrated into the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air automatically drives a lock pin into the 25mm carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without consuming live pressure. In this bore size, the cylinder generates 2513N of push thrust and 2268N of pull thrust at 0.5 MPa, making it highly capable for heavy vertical lifting tasks.

This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for precise end-position detection. A notable design trait is the variable air cushion: the locker-end cushion measures 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end. To release the rod, you can supply air to the dedicated release port for automatic unlocking or use the manual release lever.

The lock is a static holding mechanism that engages only after the piston stops at the stroke terminal, meaning it will not arrest a moving rod. For applications requiring mid-stroke clamping, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative. Furthermore, avoid using fast-exhaust valves with this cylinder; always select an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X150S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds elevated loads securely at the retracted position during power loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting machinery.

lock

End-Stroke Clamping

Maintains a rigid, pressure-free hold on workpieces at the back terminal, ideal for secure machining or welding stops.

Gate and Hatch Control

Secures heavy safety gates or industrial hatches in the closed position without continuously consuming compressed air.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X150S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore if your application demands the 2513N push force at 0.5 MPa (or up to 4523N at 0.9 MPa); stepping down to a 63mm bore reduces output to 1559N, while upgrading to a 100mm bore yields 3927N. The SAILB configuration is ideal when you need the load secured in the retracted position, whereas the SAILF variant holds the extended rod-out position. When matching replacements, verify the 150mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port threads, and the -S magnet option.

Always remember that the lock holds statically at the stroke end and is not a dynamic brake. If human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent safety measure alongside the cylinder. Since this model features a 150mm stroke, ensure adequate side-load support by utilizing external guides to prevent rod binding.

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X150S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, this 80mm bore cylinder provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.9 MPa, the push force increases to 4523N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod statically at the retracted stroke end without live pressure. You can unlock it automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the lever. It does not lock at mid-stroke.
