Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 175mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175

The AirTAC SAILB80X175 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released lock pin engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the load without requiring live air pressure. Delivering 2513N of push force at 0.5MPa, it features a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads.

Because the lock occupies one end, the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter at 22.5mm compared to the 36mm cushion on the free end. The lock releases automatically via air supply to the release port, or you can use the manual release lever. This static holding brake engages only after the cylinder stops, differentiating it from a dynamic mid-stroke clamp.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads at the retracted stroke end during power loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting frames.

lock

Clamp and Hold

Maintains a static clamping force at the rod-in position without consuming continuous air pressure.

shield

Safety Gate Hold

Keeps heavy safety gates securely retracted until an air signal releases the mechanical lock.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when you need 2513N push or 2268N pull force at 0.5MPa, stepping up from the 63mm bore which offers 1559N. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be held at the rod-in retracted position; choose SAILF if you need holding at the extended end. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve to prevent back-pressure on the locker side from accidentally releasing the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent safety measure. Replacement requires matching the 80mm bore, 175mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 port, and your mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X175 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, the SAILB80X175 provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod statically at the retracted stroke end. It unlocks automatically via air supply or a manual lever. It is not a mid-stroke clamp; use BSAI for any-position locking.
