Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X1000

The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X1000 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 1000mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.

About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X1000

The AirTAC BSAID100X1000 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 5500 N at any position along its 1000 mm stroke. Because it is a double-rod actuator, it delivers equal thrust in both directions, generating 3681 N at 0.5 MPa. It is critical to distinguish this holding force from thrust: the 5500 N clamp capacity resists the static load independently of the cylinder's 3681 N pull thrust, so you must size the clamp against the load, not the thrust.

This enclasp mechanism locks bidirectionally but only after the piston has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. The clamp releases via a third G1/8 enclasp port, requiring balanced air pressure on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. Additionally, the double-rod design allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or counterweight on the opposite end, providing dual-side anti-rotation guidance. The variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the piston and does not contribute to holding the load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N
0.7 MPa (max)5498 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X1000 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Suspends heavy vertical loads at any point in the 1000 mm travel, relying on the 5500 N clamp rather than constant air pressure.

shield

Power Loss Safety

Spring-applied enclasp engages automatically during an air failure, freezing the double-rod in place to prevent uncontrolled drops.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Secures a dual-side workpiece fixture rigidly for processing, using the opposite rod end for a position flag or secondary guide.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X1000 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 100 mm bore model when an application requires substantial mid-stroke holding and equal force both ways. If your load is lighter, stepping down to the 80 mm bore yields 2268 N of thrust and a 3600 N holding force, whereas heavier loads might require the 125 mm bore for 5734 N thrust and 8600 N holding force. A BSAID is preferred over a plain SAID when power loss could cause the load to drift, as the spring-applied clamp secures the rod anywhere in the travel. Conversely, if holding is only needed at the stroke ends, a SAIL cylinder is simpler.

For replacement, verify the 1000 mm stroke, 1/2 inch cylinder PT ports, and the G1/8 enclasp port. The 25 mm rod with an M20x1.5 thread handles high side-loads well, but at 1000 mm of travel, an external guide is strongly recommended to prevent binding. The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, offering Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. Without a -S magnet, CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors cannot be used.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X1000 FAQ

The static holding force is 5500 N. The clamp locks the rod bidirectionally at any position, but it engages only after the cylinder has stopped moving; it is not a brake for a moving rod.

The clamp unlocks via a third G1/8 enclasp port. You must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before releasing the clamp, otherwise the rod may jump abruptly. Safety-critical loads need an independent backup measure.
