The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X225S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 225mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.
The AirTAC BSAID100X225-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the piston rod at any position along its 225 mm travel, delivering a robust static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod actuator, the thrust is equal in both directions at 3681 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or counterweight on the other for dual-side anti-rotation.
A critical sizing rule is that the clamp holding force is a completely separate quantity from the cylinder thrust; you must size the 5500 N hold against your static load, not the push/pull force. The clamp uses a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port and requires balanced air pressure to unlock safely. Furthermore, the variable air cushion at the ends only decelerates the piston near stroke limits—it is never the device holding the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3927 N | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 5498 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Prevents gravity-driven drops on vertical axes by clamping the rod at any point in the travel with 5500 N of static force.
Locks a dual-sided workpiece rigidly in place during drilling or inspection, using the second rod for a position flag.
Spring-applied clamp engages automatically on air loss to freeze the load wherever it stopped, needing an independent safety measure for human safety.
Choose this double-rod clamp-lock model when you need to hold a load at an intermediate position and require equal force both ways. If you do not need the second rod, the single-rod BSAI100X225-S offers the same 5500 N hold with a higher 3927 N push force. If you only need to hold at the stroke ends, a plain SAIL100 cylinder suffices. Note that the clamp locks only after the rod stops; it cannot brake a moving load, and unlocking requires balanced pressures to prevent the rod from jumping.
This BSAID100X225-S features a PT tapered port thread, a 1/2 inch cylinder port, and a 25 mm rod with an M20x1.5 thread. The large rod diameter handles high side loads well, though for strokes over 300 mm an external guide is recommended. It includes a magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors. The correct double-rod mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N at any position. As a double-rod cylinder, it generates an equal thrust of 3681 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa.
The spring-applied clamp locks the rod only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. It must be unlocked with a G1/8 enclasp port after balancing air pressure on both sides, or the rod may jump abruptly.
