Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X350

The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X350 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 350mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.

About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X350

The AirTAC BSAID100X350 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers an equal thrust of 3681 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa, while the separate enclasp mechanism provides a robust static holding force of 5500 N. Because the clamp grips the rod at any position along its 350 mm travel, it prevents uncommanded drops during power loss. Remember that holding force and thrust are distinct quantities; you must size the 5500 N clamp capacity against your static load, not the cylinder's propulsion force.

A third G1/8 pneumatic port controls the enclasp release, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa of balanced pressure to unlock safely. The double-rod layout allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a counterweight or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. This model lacks a magnet, but the variable air cushions at both ends ensure smooth deceleration near stroke limits. Note that the cushion only absorbs end-of-stroke kinetic energy; the clamp is the sole device that holds the load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N
0.7 MPa (max)5498 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X350 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Mid-Stroke Vertical Hold

Freezes a heavy lifting platform at any point along its 350 mm vertical travel, preventing sudden crashes if air pressure drops.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Secures a dual-side guided workpiece firmly in place for intermediate machining or inspection operations without continuous air supply.

shield

Power Loss Safety Stop

Spring-applied clamp engages instantly upon pneumatic failure to hold the load safely wherever the rod has stopped.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X350 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 100 mm bore model when a 63 mm bore (1402 N thrust, 2200 N holding) is insufficient for heavy vertical loads. If your application only requires holding at the stroke ends, a plain SAID cylinder or a SAIL stroke-end lock would suffice, but the BSAID is necessary when you must freeze the load mid-travel. For replacements, verify the 100 mm bore, 350 mm stroke, PT port threads, and carbon steel dual rods. The BSAID accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts, deliberately omitting the FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets due to its twin-rod architecture. Because the 350 mm stroke exceeds 300 mm, an external guide rail is recommended to prevent side-load wear on the 25 mm rods.

Always apply the clamp only after the piston has completely stopped, as it cannot brake a moving rod. Unlocking must occur with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. For safety-critical human-interaction applications, install an independent mechanical safety device in addition to this pneumatic lock.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X350 FAQ

The spring-applied clamp provides a static holding force of 5500 N. This is separate from the cylinder's 3681 N equal thrust, and it locks the rod bidirectionally at any position after the cylinder has stopped moving.

The clamp unlocks via a third G1/8 enclasp port using 0.15-0.7 MPa air pressure. You must balance the air pressures on both sides of the piston before releasing the clamp to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. It is not a braking device for a moving rod.
