The AirTAC BSAID100X400-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 400 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 3681 N (at 0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a position flag or secondary tool on the opposite end for dual-side guidance.

It is vital to distinguish this 5500 N static holding force from the 3681 N thrust; the clamp only holds stationary loads and cannot brake a moving rod. The lock engages via a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port and releases only when cylinder pressures are balanced. Note that the variable air cushion merely decelerates the piston near stroke ends—it does not hold the load. The integrated -S magnet supports precise tracking with CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X400S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 100 mm bore when an application demands 3681 N of equal bidirectional thrust and a 5500 N static hold over a 400 mm travel. If your load is lighter, the 80 mm bore offers 2268 N thrust and a 3600 N hold; if you need more holding power, the 125 mm bore provides 5734 N thrust and an 8600 N hold. This model is preferred over a stroke-end-only SAIL cylinder when you must lock anywhere mid-travel. For non-safety-critical holding without mid-stroke locks, a plain SAID cylinder suffices.

When replacing, match the double-rod layout, 100 mm bore, 400 mm stroke, and PT port threads. The 1/2 inch cylinder ports and G1/8 unlock port require separate plumbing. Mounting options omit FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. Because the stroke is 400 mm, the 25 mm rod and M20x1.5 thread handle side loads well, but an external guide is still recommended. Operating pressure is 0.15-0.7 MPa, with a speed range of 30-500 mm/s.
