About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X600

The AirTAC BSAID100X600 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 600 mm travel with a static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is equal in both directions at 3681 N at 0.5 MPa. Buyers must distinguish this holding force from the thrust: the 5500 N clamp capacity resists external static loads independently of the 3681 N pneumatic push or pull force.

A rod extending from both ends allows mounting a workpiece on one side and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite side for dual-side anti-rotation. The enclasp mechanism uses a third G1/8 port to release the lock, requiring balanced pressure on both sides of the piston to prevent abrupt rod movement upon release. Furthermore, the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near the stroke ends; the clamp itself provides the actual holding power.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N
0.7 MPa (max)5498 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X600 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Axis Hold

Secures a 100 mm bore vertical lift anywhere in its 600 mm travel, preventing gravity-driven drops during an air-loss event.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Freezes a heavy workpiece at a precise mid-stroke coordinate for milling or inspection, using the 5500 N clamp to resist cutting forces.

build

Dual-Tool Assembly

Mounts a primary assembly tool on one rod end and a counterweight or position flag on the opposite end for balanced, guided operation.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X600 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this BSAID100X600 when a process requires equal bidirectional force and mid-stroke holding without live air pressure. If 3681 N of thrust is excessive, stepping down to an 80 mm bore yields 2268 N of pull force and a 3600 N holding capacity. Conversely, heavier loads might require the 125 mm bore, which offers 5734 N of pull force and an 8600 N hold. This clamp-lock model outperforms a SAIL cylinder, which only secures the load at stroke ends, by gripping the rod anywhere along the travel. A plain SAID cylinder suffices if mid-stroke holding is entirely unnecessary.

For replacement, match the 100 mm bore, 600 mm stroke, double-rod layout, and PT port threads (the main cylinder port is 1/2, the enclasp port is G1/8). The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. Because the stroke is 600 mm, an external guide is recommended to support the rod and prevent excessive side-loading. The clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped, so it cannot brake a moving rod; safety-critical applications need an independent measure. This standard configuration features a carbon steel rod and no magnet.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X600 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It engages a spring-applied, air-released gripper on the rod to hold the load at any position, independent of the 3681 N pneumatic thrust.

The clamp unlocks only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced and the cylinder has stopped. Releasing the lock while unbalanced can cause the rod to jump abruptly. The clamp locks only after the rod stops and cannot brake a moving load.
