The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X600S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 600mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.
The AirTAC BSAID100X600-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 5500 N, gripping the rod to hold the load securely at any position along its 600 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is symmetrical, delivering 3681 N of force in both the extend and retract directions at 0.5 MPa. You must distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the 5500 N clamp rating is the static load capacity of the brake, entirely separate from the 3681 N pneumatic driving force used to move the load.
A double-rod layout is chosen when you need to mount a workpiece on one end and a counterweight, position flag, or secondary guide on the opposite end to prevent rotation. The clamp operates via a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release the spring tension. It locks only after the piston has stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving rod. Furthermore, the clamp must be unlocked only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, preventing the rod from jumping abruptly upon release. The variable air cushions at both ends decelerate the piston near stroke ends but do not hold the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3927 N | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 5498 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Prevents a 100 mm bore vertical lift from dropping under power loss, freezing the payload at any point along the 600 mm travel with 5500 N of static grip.
Secures a dual-sided workpiece fixture firmly in place during drilling or milling, using the second rod end for a position flag.
Holds a moving assembly safely in place after the cylinder has stopped, preventing sudden drops if air pressure drops during operation.
Step down to a 80 mm bore if your application requires less driving force (2268 N pull at 0.5 MPa) and a 3600 N holding capacity is sufficient. Step up to a 125 mm bore for 5734 N pull thrust and an 8600 N holding force. Choose this BSAID model over a stroke-end-only SAIL cylinder when you must freeze the load mid-travel rather than just at the extremes. If you only need to hold the load at the stroke ends and do not require dual-side guidance, a plain SAI or SAID cylinder will suffice.
This BSAID100X600-S configuration features a carbon steel rod, PT tapered ports (1/2 inch cylinder ports, G1/8 enclasp port), and a magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors. The double-rod mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 styles. Because the stroke is 600 mm, the long unsupported rod requires an external guide to prevent excessive side-loading, despite the robust 25 mm rod diameter. For safety-critical loads, an additional independent mechanical measure is required, as the clamp is not a moving-rod brake.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It is a spring-applied, air-released mechanism that grips the rod to hold the load at any position, but it only engages after the cylinder has completely stopped moving.
The BSAID features a rod extending from both ends, providing equal thrust in both directions (3681 N at 0.5 MPa) and allowing a counterweight or secondary tool on the opposite end. Its mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets compared to the single-rod BSAI.
