About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X700

The AirTAC BSAID100X700 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 700 mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod configuration, the thrust is equal in both directions at 3681 N at 0.5 MPa. It is vital to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the clamp resists static gravitational or external loads, whereas thrust dictates the pneumatic moving power.

This enclasp mechanism operates via a dedicated G1/8 third port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release the spring tension. The rod out both ends allows mounting a workpiece on one side and a position flag or counterweight on the other for dual-side guidance. Remember that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end; the mechanical clamp is the sole device holding the load. The unit lacks a magnet, so CMSE or DMSE sensors cannot be used without modification.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N
0.7 MPa (max)5498 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X700 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Axis Load Holding

Suspends heavy vertical loads at any point in the 700 mm travel without relying on continuous air pressure, using the 5500 N static clamp.

shield

Power Loss Emergency Stop

Spring-applied clamping engages instantly upon air loss, freezing the double-rod position safely mid-stroke to prevent uncontrolled drops.

precision_manufacturing

Dual-Side Machining Positioning

Uses the second rod end for anti-rotation guidance or a position flag while the clamp holds the workpiece firmly for machining operations.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X700 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 100 mm bore double-rod model when an application requires equal push and pull forces alongside mid-stroke holding. If 3681 N of thrust is excessive, stepping down to the 80 mm bore provides 2268 N thrust and a 3600 N hold; if greater retention is needed, the 125 mm bore offers 5734 N thrust and an 8600 N hold. The BSAID100X700 outperforms a stroke-end-only SAIL lock because it clamps anywhere, whereas a plain SAID suffices if locking is entirely unnecessary. At 700 mm, the M20x1.5 rod thread handles side loads well, but the long unsupported stroke necessitates an external guide to prevent binding.

For safe operation, the clamp locks only after the piston has completely stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. It must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. Safety-critical loads require an additional independent safety measure. This model uses PT port threads, accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mountings (omitting FB, CA, CB, CR), and operates at 30-500 mm/s.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X700 FAQ

The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It clamps the rod bidirectionally at any position along the stroke, which is distinct from the 3681 N pneumatic thrust that moves the load.

The clamp locks only after the cylinder stops and cannot brake a moving rod. To release it safely, air pressure must be balanced on both sides of the piston via the G1/8 unlock port; otherwise, the rod may jump abruptly.
