The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID100X80S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 80mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 5500 N.
The AirTAC BSAID100X80-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 80mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 5500 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions, providing 3681 N of push and pull force at 0.5 MPa. You must size the clamp's holding force against your static load independently of the cylinder thrust, as these are two separate quantities.
A rod extends from both ends so you can mount the workpiece on one side and attach a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite side for dual-side anti-rotation. The clamp uses a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port, separate from the 1/2 cylinder ports, and requires 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Remember that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is what actually holds the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 3927 N | 3682 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 5498 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Suspends a heavy vertical load at any point in the 80mm travel without maintaining live air pressure, relying on the 5500 N clamp.
Uses the second rod end for a position flag while the clamp secures the 100mm bore piston rigidly for mid-stroke machining.
The spring-applied mechanism engages automatically upon air loss, freezing the double-rod payload exactly where it stopped.
Choose this 100mm bore when an application demands 3681 N of equal bidirectional thrust at 0.5 MPa alongside a robust 5500 N holding force. If you only need to hold the load at the stroke end, a plain SAIL lock cylinder suffices, but this BSAID model is required for locking at any intermediate position. For lighter vertical axes, stepping down to a 80mm bore offers 2268 N pull thrust and a 3600 N hold.
This clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. It must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. Safety-critical loads require an independent external measure. As a direct replacement, match the double-rod design, 100mm bore, 80mm stroke, PT ports, and the -S magnet for CMSE (reed) and DMSE (electronic) sensors. Mounting is limited to Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2.
Quick checklist
The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It engages via spring pressure to hold the double-rod piston at any position along the stroke, independent of the 3681 N cylinder thrust.
The clamp unlocks only when air pressure is applied to the G1/8 enclasp port and the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If the cylinder is not stopped and balanced before unlocking, the rod can move abruptly.
