About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X1000

The AirTAC BSAID125X1000 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers a bidirectional holding force of 8600 N at any position along its 1000 mm stroke. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is identical in both directions at 5734 N (0.5 MPa), allowing a workpiece to mount on one end while a guide, counterweight, or position flag mounts on the opposite end for dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. A carbon steel rod and M27x2 thread provide high structural rigidity.

It is crucial to distinguish holding force from thrust: the 8600 N clamp rating is the static load the enclasp gripper sustains, entirely separate from the 5734 N pneumatic thrust. The variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the piston; the clamp mechanism is what actually secures the load. This unit uses a third G1/8 enclasp port—separate from the two 1/2 cylinder ports—requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release the lock. Note that the clamp locks only after the rod stops; it cannot brake a moving load, and unlocking requires balanced pressures to prevent abrupt rod jumps.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

8600 N
static holding force (Ø125 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø125mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa6136 N5734 N
0.7 MPa (max)8590 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X1000 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Heavy Vertical Lift Hold

Secures a massive 1000 mm vertical lift at any intermediate height using 8600 N of static holding force, preventing gravity-driven drops during air loss.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Freezes a dual-side workpiece at a precise coordinate for machining or inspection, using the double-rod layout to mount a counterweight on the opposing end.

shield

Power Loss Safety Hold

Engages instantly upon air pressure loss to clamp the carbon steel rod, maintaining the load safely wherever it stopped along the stroke.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X1000 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 125 mm bore when a large dual-side workpiece or heavy fixture requires true equal-force movement and mid-stroke holding; if you only need end-of-stroke locking, a plain SAIL suffices. If your load is lighter, stepping down to the 100 mm bore gives 3681 N pull thrust and a 5500 N hold. Stepping up is impossible as 125 mm is the largest bore. For this 1000 mm stroke, the long unsupported rod demands an external guide to prevent side-load damage despite the robust 32 mm rod. Replacement requires a double-rod configuration, 125 mm bore, 1000 mm stroke, PT port threads, and the BSAID mounting set (Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, TCM2—omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). No magnet is specified, so CMSE/DMSE sensors cannot be used without modification.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X1000 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 8600 N. It engages via spring force to grip the rod at any position, holding the load securely without requiring continuous air pressure.

The clamp unlocks only after the cylinder has stopped and the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, applied via the G1/8 enclasp port. Releasing it unbalanced can cause the rod to jump abruptly.
