About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X225S

The AirTAC BSAID125X225-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It delivers equal thrust in both directions, generating 5734 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, and its integrated enclasp mechanism secures the load at any stroke position with a static holding force of 8600 N. Remember that holding force is entirely separate from thrust; you must size the clamp's 8600 N capacity against your static load, not the cylinder's dynamic push or pull output.

A rod extending from both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp operates via a third G1/8 enclasp port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; the clamp is the true holding device. Furthermore, the clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped and cannot brake a moving load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

8600 N
static holding force (Ø125 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø125mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa6136 N5734 N
0.7 MPa (max)8590 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X225S Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy vertical lifting platforms at any mid-stroke position during power loss, preventing sudden drops with 8600 N of holding force.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Hold

Locks a dual-side workpiece firmly in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod end for an anti-rotation guide.

shield

Emergency Safety Stop

Provides a bidirectional safety clamp that engages only after the piston stops, halting load drift in safety gates or heavy presses.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X225S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 125 mm bore when an application demands substantial equal-force movement and robust mid-stroke holding, stepping up from the 100 mm bore (3681 N pull at 0.5 MPa, 5500 N holding force) for heavier loads. A plain SAID double-rod cylinder suffices if you only need bidirectional thrust without position holding, while the BSAID is essential when power loss requires immediate load retention anywhere in the travel. For safety, the clamp unlocks only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced; otherwise, the rod may jump abruptly, meaning human-safety-critical setups require an additional independent measure.

This BSAID125X225-S configuration features a carbon steel rod, PT tapered port threads, and an -S magnet for CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors. It supports BSAID-specific mountings (Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, TCM2), omitting the FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets due to the double-rod geometry. Its 32 mm rod diameter and M27x2 thread provide high side-load capacity, though external guidance is recommended for long unsupported strokes.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X225S FAQ

It uses a spring-applied, air-released mechanism to grip the rod at any position with a static holding force of 8600 N. Because it is a double-rod cylinder, it provides equal 5734 N thrust in both directions, but the clamp only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving.

The clamp is released by applying 0.15-0.7 MPa to the third G1/8 enclasp port, but only after the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If pressures are unbalanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release, so an independent safety measure is required for human-safety applications.
