The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X250 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 250mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 8600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID125X250 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod architecture and an integrated clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the 32 mm piston rod to secure the load at any position along the 250 mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 8600 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the cylinder generates equal force in both directions, providing 5734 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa on both the extension and retraction strokes. It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the 8600 N rating defines the clamp's grip on the rod, while the 5734 N thrust drives the motion.
A rod extending from both ends allows you to mount the primary workpiece on one side and attach a counterweight, position flag, or secondary tool on the opposite end. This dual-sided guidance is highly effective for anti-rotation and balancing vertical loads. The clamp mechanism relies on a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port—a third air connection separate from the two 1/2 cylinder ports—to release the grip. Remember that the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near the stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is the sole device responsible for holding the load in place.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

| 0.7 MPa (max) | 8590 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Freezes a heavy machining fixture at the exact required coordinate along the stroke, resisting cutting vibration with 8600 N of static grip.
Secures elevated vertical loads at any intermediate height, preventing gravity-driven drops when the compressed air supply is removed.
Utilizes the double-rod design to mount a primary workpiece on one end and a balancing counterweight on the other for smooth, anti-rotation transfers.
Choose this BSAID125X250 when an application demands extreme holding capacity and symmetrical force. If the 8600 N holding force exceeds your requirements, stepping down to a bore 80 model reduces the clamp grip to 3600 N while still offering 2268 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa. Conversely, if you only need to prevent movement at the stroke ends, a plain SAIL cylinder provides a simpler stroke-end lock, whereas this BSAI series is necessary when the load must be frozen at any intermediate point. If no locking is required at all, a standard SAID double-rod cylinder suffices.
When integrating this cylinder, note that the clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. It must be unlocked by applying balanced air pressure to both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. For safety-critical applications, an independent external safety measure is mandatory. To match this replacement, specify a double-rod configuration, 125 mm bore, 250 mm stroke, PT port threads, and a mounting set limited to Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2. The robust M27x2 rod thread handles significant side loads, but for strokes of 300 mm or longer, an external guide rail is recommended to prevent rod bending.
Quick checklist
The integrated clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 8600 N. Unlike a SAIL cylinder that only holds at the stroke ends, this BSAI model locks the rod at any position along the 250 mm stroke.
The clamp is spring-applied and air-released via a dedicated G1/8 port. It locks only after the rod stops moving and cannot brake a moving load. To prevent the rod from jumping, it must be unlocked only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced.
