Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 5734 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the other.
It is vital to distinguish this 8600 N static holding force from the cylinder thrust; the clamp sustains the load without live pressure, whereas thrust moves it. Furthermore, the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends, while the actual load holding is performed exclusively by the clamp. This model outperforms a SAIL cylinder because it locks anywhere, not just at the stroke end, though a plain SAID suffices if no intermediate holding is needed. The 32 mm rod and M27x2 thread provide excellent side-load capacity, but at 450 mm of stroke, external guidance is still recommended to prevent rod binding.
For safe operation, the clamp locks only after the rod has stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving load. Unlocking requires balanced air pressure on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. Safety-critical applications must include an independent external safety measure.
