The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X50 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 50mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 8600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID125X50 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 50 mm travel with a static holding force of 8600 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is equal in both directions at 5734 N (0.5 MPa). Remember that holding force and thrust are separate metrics; you must size the 8600 N clamp capacity against your static load, not the 5734 N cylinder thrust.
The clamp mechanism operates via a third G1/8 enclasp port and unlocks only when air pressure is balanced across the piston. The variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the moving mass; the clamp itself is what holds the load. The dual-rod design is specifically chosen to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the other, providing dual-side anti-rotation guidance.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 6136 N | 5734 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 8590 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Prevents heavy vertical platens from dropping when air pressure is lost, securely clamping the 32 mm rod at any point in the 50 mm stroke.
Holds a dual-side workpiece rigidly for machining or inspection, using the second rod end for a position flag or external guide.
The spring-applied clamp engages instantly upon air loss, freezing the load safely mid-stroke until balanced pressure is restored.
Choose this 125 mm bore model when your application demands extreme mid-stroke holding capacity that a smaller bore cannot provide. If you do not need mid-stroke locking, a plain SAID125X50 double-rod cylinder suffices. If you only need to hold at stroke ends, the SAIL series is an alternative. The BSAID125X50 clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. Furthermore, it must be unlocked with balanced pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. For safety-critical operations, an additional independent mechanical measure is required.
This model features a 32 mm carbon steel rod with an M27x2 thread, offering high resistance to side loads. It uses PT tapered ports (1/2 inch cylinder ports, G1/8 enclasp port). The correct mounting set for this double-rod unit omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts. It operates at 0.15-0.7 MPa and runs at 30-500 mm/s.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 8600 N. It locks the rod at any position bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving; it is not a braking device for a moving rod.
The clamp is released via a third G1/8 enclasp port, but only when the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If pressure is not balanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon unlocking. An independent safety measure is required for human-safety loads.
