The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X150S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 150mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X150-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. It delivers an equal thrust of 825 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa. The integrated enclasp gripper locks the piston at any position along the 150 mm travel, providing a static holding force of 1400 N. Remember that this holding force is a separate quantity from the cylinder thrust; you must size the clamp capacity against your static load, not the push or pull force.
This unit uses a 20 mm rod with an M16x1.5 thread, and the double-rod design allows you to mount a workpiece on one end while attaching a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end for dual-side anti-rotation. The clamp requires a third G1/8 PT unlock port, separate from the two 1/4 cylinder ports, and releases only when air pressures are balanced. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is what actually holds the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 982 N | 825 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically lifted payload at any intermediate height using the 1400 N clamp, preventing descent during an air loss event.
Freezes the double-rod position mid-stroke to rigidly hold a part for drilling or inspection, using the second rod end for a position flag.
Maintains the exact rod location when a machine halts unexpectedly, locking the load securely without relying on pneumatic pressure.
Choose this double-rod configuration when a project demands equal force both ways and dual-side tooling, whereas a single-rod BSAI50X150-S suffices if you only need a standard extending rod. If your load requires a higher hold, stepping up to the 63 mm bore provides a 2200 N holding force and 1402 N pull thrust, or step down to the 40 mm bore for 900 N holding force and 528 N thrust. This BSAID50X150-S is preferred over a SAIL end-lock cylinder because it can grip the rod anywhere in the stroke, not just at the endpoints.
For safe operation, understand that the clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. You must unlock it with balanced pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly, and human-safety applications require an independent external safety measure. This model includes the -S magnet for precise position sensing with AirTAC CMSE (reed) or DMSE (electronic) switches. It uses PT ports and supports Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB, CA, CB, and CR).
Quick checklist
The BSAID50X150-S provides a static holding force of 1400 N. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the 20 mm rod to hold the load at any position bidirectionally. It only engages after the cylinder stops and cannot brake a moving rod.
The clamp is released via a third G1/8 port only when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, preventing abrupt rod movement. This -S model includes a magnet for CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors for exact position detection.
