The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X200S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 200mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X200-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod out both ends and a built-in clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the 20 mm carbon steel rod, holding the load at any position along the 200 mm stroke with a static holding force of 1400 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is equal in both directions at 825 N (0.5 MPa). Buyers must distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the clamp resists external static loads, whereas thrust dictates movement capability.
This enclasp mechanism requires a third G1/8 PT unlock port, separate from the two 1/4 cylinder ports. The clamp locks only after the piston has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. Unlocking requires balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston to prevent abrupt rod jumping. The -S magnet option enables position sensing via AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state switches. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; the clamp is the true holding device.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 982 N | 825 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Holds a vertical load at any position without live air pressure, preventing gravity-driven drops.
Spring-applied clamp secures the load instantly during an air or power failure mid-stroke.
Locks the dual rods rigidly during machining or inspection to prevent unwanted deflection.
Choose this double-rod model when an application requires dual-side guidance, anti-rotation, or mounting a workpiece on one end and a counterweight or position flag on the other. If you only need end-of-stroke locking, a plain SAIL cylinder suffices. If you need to hold a load anywhere in the travel without live pressure, this BSAID is the correct choice. Step down to a 40 mm bore for 528 N pull thrust and 900 N holding force, or up to a 63 mm bore for 1402 N pull thrust and 2200 N holding force.
For safety-critical loads, add an independent external measure, as the clamp is not a moving-rod brake. Ensure balanced pressures before unlocking. The BSAID50X200-S accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). The 20 mm rod and M16x1.5 thread handle side loads well, though long unsupported strokes still need an external guide.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N. It locks the rod at any position bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving.
The clamp unlocks via a third G1/8 port at 0.15-0.7 MPa. Air pressures on both sides of the piston must be balanced before unlocking, or the rod may jump abruptly.
