Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X200

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X200 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X200

The AirTAC SAILB50X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock inside the back cover. Because it is a SAILB variant, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages only when the piston reaches the fully retracted stroke end, securely holding the rod in place without requiring live pressure. With a 50mm bore, it generates 982N of push thrust and 825N of pull thrust at 0.5 MPa, making it well-suited for medium-duty vertical load holding.

The lock mechanism releases automatically via an air signal to the dedicated port, or manually via the override lever. A notable design detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 20mm, which is shorter than the 30mm cushion found at the free end. This cylinder uses a 1/4 PT tapered port thread and a standard carbon steel rod with an M16x1.5 thread.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X200 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Secures a raised load in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting platforms.

lock

End-Stroke Clamping

Holds a workpiece firmly at the rod-in stroke end during machining or processing without consuming continuous air.

build

Gate Position Hold

Maintains a gate or heavy door securely closed at the retracted terminal, keeping the load locked until an air signal releases it.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X200 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 50mm bore model when an application requires holding a 982N load at 0.5 MPa in the retracted position; if your load demands less force, the 40mm bore offers 628N, while heavier lifts up to 1559N require the 63mm bore. Choose this SAILB configuration specifically because the back cover lock secures the rod-in position, whereas a SAILF variant holds the extended end. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Remember that the SAIL lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For safety-critical loads that must stay up during a power loss, add an independent mechanical safety measure. When replacing this unit, verify the 50mm bore, 200mm stroke, back locker position, 1/4 PT port, and your required mounting style from the Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, or TCM2 options.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X200 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the 50mm bore provides 982N of push force and 825N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 1374N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It engages statically only when the rod reaches the fully retracted stroke end. It unlocks via an air signal to the release port or by using the manual override lever.
