The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X225S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 225mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X225-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. It delivers an equal 825 N thrust in both directions at 0.5 MPa. The integrated enclasp gripper locks the rod at any position along its 225 mm travel, providing a static holding force of 1400 N. Remember that this holding force is a distinct quantity from the cylinder's kinetic thrust; you must size the clamp's 1400 N capacity against your static load, not the 825 N drive force.
This unit includes a -S magnet compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors for position feedback. The clamp requires a third G1/8 unlock port (separate from the 1/4 cylinder ports) and operates within a 0.15-0.7 MPa range. The double-rod design allows mounting a workpiece on one end and a guide or counterweight on the other for dual-side anti-rotation. Crucially, the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end; the clamp is the true holding device. The lock engages only after the rod stops, and unlocking requires balanced pressures to prevent abrupt movement.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 982 N | 825 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Locks a raised load at any height along the vertical stroke to prevent sudden drops during operation.
Spring-applied clamp secures the double-rod instantly when air supply is lost, holding position anywhere in travel.
Holds a dual-sided workpiece or fixture rigidly for machining or inspection without relying on live pressure.
Choose this double-rod clamp-lock when you need equal push/pull force and multi-position holding along the stroke. If 825 N thrust is insufficient, step up to the 63 mm bore (1402 N pull, 2200 N holding force); if lower force is acceptable, the 40 mm bore offers 528 N pull and 900 N holding. Select BSAID over SAIL when you must lock mid-stroke rather than only at the end. A plain SAID suffices if no holding is needed. The 20 mm carbon steel rod with an M16x1.5 thread handles side loads well, but for this 225 mm stroke, external guidance is still recommended for heavy loads.
For safe operation, the clamp locks the rod only after it has stopped; it cannot brake a moving load. Unlocking must occur with balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump. Human-safety-critical applications require an independent mechanical measure. This replacement match features a PT port thread, 1/4 cylinder ports, and a -S magnet. Use the BSAID mounting set (Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, TCM2), as FB, CA, CB, and CR are omitted for double-rod types.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N at any position. This is separate from the 825 N thrust; always size the holding capacity against your static load.
The clamp locks only after the rod stops and cannot brake moving loads. To release it safely, apply air to the G1/8 unlock port only after balancing pressures on both sides, preventing abrupt rod movement.
