About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X300

The AirTAC BSAID50X300 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 300 mm travel, providing a static holding force of 1400 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, it delivers equal thrust in both directions (825 N at 0.5 MPa), and the extending rod from both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide or position flag on the other for dual-side anti-rotation.

It is vital to distinguish this 1400 N static holding force from the 825 N cylinder thrust; you must size the clamp against the static load weight, not the pneumatic drive force. Furthermore, the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends, while the actual load holding is performed exclusively by the clamp. The enclasp mechanism operates via a separate G1/8 unlock port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa of balanced air pressure to release the spring grip safely.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

1400 N
static holding force (Ø50 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø50mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa982 N825 N
0.7 MPa (max)1374 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X300 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Mid-Stroke Hold

Suspends elevated loads at any point along the 300 mm vertical travel without relying on continuous air pressure.

shield

Power Loss Safety

Spring-applied clamp immediately grips the 20 mm rod to prevent uncontrolled drops when shop air fails.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Positioning

Locks the dual rods rigidly in place during secondary machining or inspection, using the opposite end for a flag.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X300 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Select this 50 mm bore when an application demands 825 N of equal push/pull force alongside a 1400 N static hold at varying mid-strokes. If your load requires less holding power, the 40 mm bore offers 900 N of clamp force and 528 N thrust; if you need more, the 63 mm bore provides 2200 N of holding force and 1402 N thrust. Choose this BSAID model over a stroke-end-only SAIL lock when you must secure the rod somewhere other than the fully extended or retracted position, or choose a plain SAID if no mid-stroke clamping is needed.

Remember the clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped moving; it cannot brake a moving rod. You must unlock it with balanced pressures on both sides of the piston, or the rod may jump abruptly. For safety-critical human loads, add an independent safety measure. This configuration uses PT tapered ports (1/4 cylinder, G1/8 enclasp), a 20 mm rod with M16x1.5 thread, and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 mountings (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). As a 300 mm stroke exceeds typical unsupported lengths, utilize the dual rods for external guidance to manage side loads.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X300 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N. It engages via spring pressure to hold the double rod at any position bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving.

You must apply 0.15-0.7 MPa of air to the G1/8 enclasp port, but only after balancing the pressures on both sides of the piston. Releasing it with unbalanced pressure can cause the rod to jump abruptly.
