The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X800 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 800mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X800 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 1400 N at any position along its 800 mm stroke. Because it is a double-rod actuator, the thrust is equal in both directions at 825 N (0.5 MPa), and the extending rod from both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide or counterweight on the other for dual-side anti-rotation.
It is crucial to distinguish this 1400 N holding force from the cylinder's 825 N dynamic thrust—size the clamp against the static load, not the push/pull force. Furthermore, the variable air cushions at the stroke ends only decelerate the piston; the mechanical clamp is what actually secures the load. The clamp engages via a separate G1/8 enclasp port and requires a balanced air pressure to unlock safely, preventing the rod from jumping abruptly upon release.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 982 N | 825 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Secures a vertically lifted load at any mid-stroke height with 1400 N of holding force, preventing sudden drops during a power loss.
Holds a dual-sided workpiece fixture rigidly in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod for an anti-rotation guide.
Provides a reliable mechanical hold across an 800 mm travel range when the pneumatic air supply is removed mid-cycle.
Choose this double-rod model when you need equal push/pull force and dual-side guidance over a long 800 mm travel. If you do not need the second rod for external mounting or anti-rotation, a plain BSAI50X800 single-rod clamp-lock provides the same 1400 N hold. For higher load capacity, stepping up to a 63 mm bore increases the holding force to 2200 N and thrust to 1402 N. At 800 mm of stroke, the 20 mm carbon steel rod and M16x1.5 thread provide good side-load capacity, but an external guide is still recommended to prevent binding.
This clamp locks only after the cylinder has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. Safety-critical applications must use an additional independent safety measure. Replacement requires a double-rod 50 mm bore, 800 mm stroke, PT ported cylinder with the correct mounting set (Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, TCM2). Note that this unit lacks a magnet; add an -S suffix if CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors are needed for position feedback.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N. It engages via a spring mechanism and holds the load at any position along the 800 mm stroke, operating bidirectionally.
The clamp is released by applying air to the G1/8 enclasp port, but only after the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If pressures are not balanced, the rod can move abruptly upon release.
