The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X900S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 900mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X900-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod protruding from both ends and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. It delivers an equal thrust of 825 N in both directions at 0.5 MPa. A defining trait is its bidirectional enclasp gripper, which locks the rod at any position along the 900 mm travel, providing a static holding force of 1400 N. Buyers must distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the 1400 N rating dictates the static load capacity against gravity, whereas the 825 N thrust drives the dynamic motion.
This model includes a -S magnet for position sensing via AirTAC CMSE (reed) and DMSE (solid-state) switches. The double-rod design is chosen to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the opposite end, ensuring dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp operates via a third G1/8 enclasp port, requiring 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Remember that the variable air cushions at stroke ends only decelerate motion; the clamp is the true holding device.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 982 N | 825 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Suspends vertical loads at any point along the 900 mm travel using the 1400 N clamp, preventing gravity drops during cycle pauses.
The spring-applied enclasp engages automatically upon air loss, securely holding the double-rod position wherever it stopped.
Uses the dual rods for anti-rotation guidance and locks the workpiece at a custom inspection point for stable processing.
Select this 50 mm bore model when an application demands mid-stroke holding and dual-side anti-rotation. If less holding capacity is acceptable, the 40 mm bore offers 900 N of clamp force and 528 N of thrust; if heavier loads exist, the 63 mm bore provides 2200 N of holding force. The BSAID50X900-S excels over a SAIL cylinder by locking at any position rather than only at stroke ends, whereas a plain SAID lacks a lock entirely.
Because the 900 mm stroke is long, an external guide is required to prevent excessive side-loading on the 20 mm carbon steel rod and M16x1.5 thread. The clamp locks only after the rod stops; it cannot brake a moving load. Furthermore, it must be unlocked with balanced air pressures on both piston sides to prevent abrupt rod jumps. For human-safety critical holds, add an independent safety measure. This double-rod variant uses PT port threads and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB, CA, CB, CR).
Quick checklist
It provides a static holding force of 1400 N. The clamp-lock engages at any position along the 900 mm stroke, holding the load bidirectionally.
The spring-applied clamp locks only after the rod stops; it cannot brake moving loads. To unlock safely, balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston via the G1/8 port to prevent abrupt rod movement.
