About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X350

The AirTAC BSAID63X350 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 350 mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 2200 N. Because it is a double-rod actuator, the thrust is equal in both directions at 1402 N (at 0.5 MPa), and the second protruding rod allows you to mount a position flag, external guide, or secondary tool on the opposite end for dual-side anti-rotation.

It is vital to distinguish the 2200 N static holding force from the 1402 N cylinder thrust: the mechanical clamp bears the stationary load, not the pneumatic pressure. The clamp engages via a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port and only locks after the piston has completely stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving rod. Furthermore, the variable air cushions at the stroke ends only decelerate the piston; they do not hold the load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

2200 N
static holding force (Ø63 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø63mm)

0.7 MPa (max)2182 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (2200 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X350 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Mid-Stroke Vertical Hold

Freezes a vertical lifting stage at any point in the 350 mm travel, using the 2200 N clamp to prevent gravity-induced drops during operation.

shield

Power Loss Safety

Secures the equal-thrust double-rod payload instantly when air supply is lost, holding the workpiece firmly in place via the spring-applied enclasp.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Locks the dual-rod axis dead in place for a secondary machining or inspection process, utilizing the second rod for a counterweight or guide.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X350 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 63 mm bore when an application requires 1402 N of thrust in both directions alongside a robust 2200 N holding capability. If your load is lighter, the 50 mm bore offers 825 N of equal thrust and a 1400 N hold; for heavier loads, the 80 mm bore provides 2268 N of thrust and a 3600 N hold. Select the BSAID63X350 over a stroke-end-only SAIL model when you must freeze the load mid-travel. If mid-stroke locking is unnecessary, a plain SAID cylinder suffices.

This clamp locks only after the rod stops and must be released with balanced air pressures (0.15-0.7 MPa) to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. For safety-critical human-interaction scenarios, install an independent external safety measure. As a direct replacement, match the double-rod format, 63 mm bore, 350 mm stroke, and PT port threads. The 20 mm rod with an M16x1.5 thread handles side loads well, but at 350 mm stroke, an external guide is recommended. Mounting options are limited to Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. No magnet is specified, so CMSE or DMSE sensors cannot be used without modification.

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID63X350 FAQ

The 2200 N static holding force is applied by a spring-driven clamp that grips the rod at any position. This bidirectional hold is separate from the 1402 N pneumatic thrust and engages only after the cylinder has stopped moving.

You must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before supplying air to the G1/8 unlock port. If pressures are unbalanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release. For human-safety applications, an independent external safety measure is required.
