The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X250 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 250mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 3600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID80X250 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. A defining trait of this enclasp unit is its ability to lock the piston rod at ANY position along the 250 mm stroke, providing a robust static holding force of 3600 N. Because it is a double-rod design, the thrust is identical in both directions at 2268 N (at 0.5 MPa). It is crucial to distinguish this holding force from the cylinder thrust: the 3600 N rating dictates how much static load the clamp can resist, whereas the 2268 N thrust drives the motion.
A rod extending from both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the other, delivering dual-side guidance and anti-rotation benefits. The clamp operates via a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port, separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports, and requires a balanced air pressure between 0.15-0.7 MPa to unlock safely. Furthermore, the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near the stroke ends; the mechanical clamp is the sole device responsible for securing the load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2513 N | 2268 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 3519 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Locks a lifted load at any intermediate height along the vertical stroke with 3600 N of holding force, preventing descent during air pressure loss.
Secures a dual-sided workpiece fixture rigidly in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod for an anti-rotation guide.
The spring-applied clamp engages automatically anywhere in the travel when air supply is cut, holding the load safely until pressure is restored.
Select this double-rod model when a process requires equal push and pull forces (2268 N at 0.5 MPa) alongside mid-stroke holding. If your application only needs to hold at the fully extended or retracted end, a SAIL stroke-end lock cylinder is sufficient. If no locking is needed at all, a standard SAID cylinder is a simpler choice. To adjust power, stepping down to a 63 mm bore yields 1402 N of thrust and a 2200 N holding force, while stepping up to a 100 mm bore provides 3681 N of thrust and a 5500 N holding capacity.
As a replacement, match the 80 mm bore, 250 mm stroke, PT port threads, and the double-rod layout. The BSAID accepts a specific mounting set: Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 (omitting FB, CA, CB, and CR). The 25 mm rod thread handles side loads well, but for this 250 mm stroke, ensure external guidance for heavy loads. Note that the clamp locks only after the rod has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. It must be unlocked with balanced piston pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly, and human-safety applications require an independent external safety measure.
Quick checklist
The clamp provides a static holding force of 3600 N. It is a spring-applied, air-released mechanism that locks the rod at any position bidirectionally. It only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving and cannot be used to brake a moving load.
The clamp is released via a G1/8 enclasp port, but only when the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced; otherwise, the rod may jump. The double-rod design provides equal thrust both ways (2268 N at 0.5 MPa) and allows mounting a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the other.
