The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X500 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 500mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 3600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID80X500 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the piston rod at any point along its 500 mm travel, delivering a robust static holding force of 3600 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, force is equal in both directions, generating 2268 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa on both the push and pull strokes. Remember that holding force and thrust are distinct: you must size the 3600 N clamp capacity against your static load, not the cylinder thrust. The enclasp mechanism operates via a dedicated G1/8 port, separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports.
This clamp engages only after the rod stops; it cannot brake a moving load and requires balanced air pressure to unlock safely. The variable air cushions at both ends decelerate the piston near stroke limits, but the clamp is the true load-holder. A double-rod design mounts a workpiece on one end and a guide or counterweight on the other, providing dual-side anti-rotation guidance.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2513 N | 2268 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 3519 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Maintains heavy vertical loads at any point in the 500 mm travel without relying on continuous air pressure.
The spring-applied clamp engages automatically during an air failure, securing the load exactly where it stopped.
Holds a dual-sided workpiece rigidly for machining or inspection, using the second rod for a counterweight.
Select this double-rod model when an application requires holding a load mid-stroke on a vertical axis and needs symmetric force. If you only need end-of-stroke locking, a SAIL80 cylinder suffices, while a plain SAID80 works if no clamp is needed. If your load exceeds 3600 N, step up to the 100 mm bore, which provides 3681 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa and a 5500 N holding force. If the load is lighter, the 63 mm bore offers 1402 N thrust and a 2200 N hold. Note that the clamp locks only after the cylinder stops, and unlocking requires balanced pressures to prevent abrupt rod movement. For safety-critical loads, add an independent mechanical measure.
As a direct replacement, match the double-rod configuration, 80 mm bore, 500 mm stroke, and PT tapered ports. The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. The 25 mm carbon steel rod and M20x1.5 thread handle high side loads, but at 500 mm stroke, an external guide rail is recommended to prevent binding.
Quick checklist
It uses a spring-applied, air-released mechanism to grip the rod at any position with a 3600 N static holding force. It locks only after the rod stops and cannot brake a moving load.
The double rod provides equal force both ways and allows mounting a workpiece on one end and a guide or counterweight on the other for anti-rotation, while the clamp secures the load.
