About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X600

The AirTAC BSAID80X600 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod extending from both ends and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 600 mm travel with a static holding force of 3600 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is equal in both directions at 2268 N at 0.5 MPa. A buyer must size the 3600 N holding force against the static load, as this clamping capacity is a distinct quantity separate from the cylinder's standard thrust output.

The dual-rod architecture allows mounting a workpiece on one end and a guide or counterweight on the opposite end, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. This enclasp mechanism requires a third G1/8 unlock port alongside the 3/8 cylinder ports, operating within a 0.15-0.7 MPa range. The variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke limits; the clamp itself is what actually holds the load. Furthermore, the clamp locks only after the rod stops and cannot brake a moving load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

3600 N
static holding force (Ø80 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø80mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa2513 N2268 N
0.7 MPa (max)3519 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X600 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Secures a heavy vertical workpiece at any point in its 600 mm travel, preventing gravity-driven drops during a pneumatic pressure loss.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Holds a part rigidly mid-stroke for machining or inspection, using the dual-rod design to prevent torsional deflection during cutting.

shield

Emergency Safety Stop

Maintains a guarded position anywhere along the axis if power fails, engaging only after motion has ceased to freeze the load safely.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X600 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod BSAID80X600 when an application demands equal force both ways and multi-side guidance over a 600 mm stroke. If your load requires less holding capacity, the 63 mm bore offers 1402 N thrust and a 2200 N hold; if you need more, the 100 mm bore provides 3681 N thrust and a 5500 N hold. Select a plain SAID if mid-stroke locking is unnecessary, or a SAIL if holding only at stroke ends is acceptable. Because the stroke is 600 mm, an external guide is recommended to support the rod and prevent excessive side-loading.

For replacements, match the 80 mm bore, 600 mm stroke, PT threaded 3/8 ports, and the double-rod design. The BSAID mounting set omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. This specific configuration uses a carbon steel rod without a magnet, so CMSE or DMSE sensors cannot be used. Always ensure air pressures are balanced before unlocking to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly, and add an independent safety measure for human-safety-critical holds.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X600 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 3600 N. It engages via a spring-applied, air-released mechanism to hold the rod at any position, but it only locks after the cylinder has completely stopped moving.

The clamp uses a third G1/8 enclasp port and requires balanced air pressure on both sides of the piston to unlock. If pressures are not balanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release, so an independent safety measure is required for human-safety-critical applications.
