Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB100X900

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB100X900 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 900mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB100X900

The AirTAC SAILB100X900 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This built-in lock safely holds the rod at the fully retracted stroke-end position whenever release air is cut, maintaining the load without relying on live pressure. In the 100mm bore class, it generates 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it well-suited for heavy vertical lifting tasks.

The locker end utilizes a shorter 24mm variable air cushion compared to the 36mm cushion on the free end, a specific design choice to accommodate the locking mechanism. To release the hold, you simply supply air to the release port for automatic unlocking, or use the manual release lever. For position sensing, adding a -S magnet allows the use of AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state sensors in the dual-side barrel groove.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB100X900 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Holds heavy lifted loads securely at the retracted stroke end on the 900mm travel path during a complete air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops.

lock

Clamp and Secure

Maintains a rigid clamped state at the rod-in position without consuming continuous air supply, utilizing the back cover mechanical lock.

shield

Gate Safety Stop

Keeps heavy safety gates or machinery guards locked closed at the retracted terminal until the air-release port is actively pressurized.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB100X900 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 100mm bore model when an application demands substantial thrust, stepping up from the 80mm bore which provides 2513N push force at 0.5 MPa. The 900mm stroke is a standard length for this bore, but at this length you must account for side-loading; ensure external guide rails are used to prevent rod binding and premature seal wear. Choose SAILB with the back lock specifically when the load must be secured in the retracted (rod-in) position; if your safety requirement is holding the load extended, the SAILF variant is the correct choice.

Remember that this lock engages statically only after the piston stops at the stroke terminal. It is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod, nor does it clamp at an arbitrary mid-stroke point—applications requiring mid-stroke holding need the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead. Critical valve selection: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent mechanical safety measure as well. Replacement matches must verify the 100mm bore, 900mm stroke, back locker position, 1/2 PT port, and ISO 15552 mounting interface.

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB100X900 FAQ

At an operating pressure of 0.5 MPa, the 100mm bore generates 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 5497N.

The spring-applied, air-released lock is located in the back cover and holds the rod statically at the retracted stroke end. It engages when the cylinder stops and release air is cut off; it does not brake a moving rod or lock at mid-stroke. It unlocks automatically via air pressure or manually via a lever.
