Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X125

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X125 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø160mm bore, 125mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X125

The AirTAC SAILB160X125 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This built-in lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, ensuring heavy loads remain securely held without requiring continuous live air pressure. With a robust 160mm bore, it delivers substantial thrust, yielding 10053N of pull force at 0.5MPa and up to 18095N of push force at 0.9MPa.

The locking mechanism is strictly a static holding device for the stroke-end position; it is not designed to brake a moving rod or clamp at arbitrary mid-stroke points. To accommodate the lock hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, intentionally shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end. The standard carbon steel rod provides excellent durability, and the PT tapered port threads ensure a reliable, leak-free connection.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X125 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Power-Off Hold

Secures heavy elevated platforms in the retracted position instantly if air pressure drops, preventing uncontrolled falls.

lock

End-Stroke Safety Clamp

Holds a 160mm bore actuator firmly at the retracted terminal without consuming compressed air during extended machine pauses.

build

Heavy Gate Control

Maintains massive industrial gates securely closed against high external forces until the release air is supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X125 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 160mm bore model when an application demands high force alongside fail-safe retracted holding; if you need less force, the 125mm bore offers 5734N pull at 0.5MPa. Choose the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the rod-in position, whereas the SAILF variant holds the extended end. If your process requires clamping at any intermediate mid-stroke position rather than the stroke terminal, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

Because this is a static stroke-end lock, never pair it with a fast-exhaust valve; back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. For any safety-critical lifting application where human safety depends on the load staying up, always add an independent secondary safety measure. Replacement parts must match the 160mm bore, 125mm stroke, back locker position, PT port threads, and standard mounting interface.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X125 FAQ

The 160mm bore provides a push force of 10053N and a pull force of 9425N at 0.5MPa. At 0.9MPa, the push force reaches 18095N.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages statically at the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It holds the rod without live pressure and can be unlocked automatically via air or manually, but it does not clamp at mid-stroke.
