Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø160mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200

The AirTAC SAILB160X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This mechanism engages a lock pin to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end whenever release air is cut, maintaining load position without consuming live pressure. Delivering 10053N of pull force at 0.5MPa, it is built for heavy-duty power-loss safety.

To manage deceleration, the barrel integrates variable air cushions at both ends, though the cushion at the locker end is notably shorter at 28mm compared to the 50mm free end. The extruded aluminum barrel includes dual sensor grooves for position feedback. While standard carbon steel rod construction handles high axial loads, the lock is a static holding device that engages only after the piston stops, not a dynamic mid-stroke brake.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy lifted masses in the retracted position during a sudden air pressure loss, preventing uncontrolled drops on heavy machinery.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Holds safety gates and heavy access doors firmly shut at the end of the retracted stroke until the release air is actively supplied.

precision_manufacturing

Static Clamp Retention

Maintains clamping force on large fabricated parts without continuous air supply, engaging the lock only after the cylinder reaches the retracted terminal.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 160mm bore when an application demands substantial retracted-load holding capability, offering 10053N pull at 0.5MPa. If your setup requires holding the load at the extended rod-out position instead, select the SAILF160X200 front-locker variant. Conversely, if the mechanism must clamp the rod at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke terminal, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Because the lock relies on a spring to engage, avoid using fast-exhaust valves; back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the pin, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. For any safety-critical lifting application where human life or heavy loads hang overhead, always add an independent secondary safety measure. Replacement specifications must match the 160mm bore, 200mm stroke, PT port threads, and basic mounting interface.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 160mm bore cylinder provides 10053N of pull force and 14074N of push force. The maximum operating pressure is 1.0MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the rod stops and is unlocked automatically via air supply or manually via a lever.
