Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø160mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200S

The AirTAC SAILB160X200-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This built-in mechanism engages a lock pin to secure the rod securely at the retracted stroke end, ensuring heavy loads remain held without requiring continuous live air pressure. Equipped with a magnet, it supports position sensing via CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches.

In the 160mm bore class, this actuator generates a substantial 14074N of push force and 9425N of pull force at 0.7 MPa, operating efficiently between 30-500 mm/s. The carbon steel piston rod provides robust durability for high-stress environments. To accommodate the locking hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is specifically designed at 28mm, which is shorter than the 50mm cushion found on the non-locking free end.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures elevated heavy platens in the retracted position during a sudden power loss, preventing catastrophic drops without relying on continuous air pressure.

precision_manufacturing

Heavy Clamp Securement

Maintains massive clamping force at the stroke end on large fabrication fixtures, keeping the workpiece locked steady even if the main air supply fluctuates.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Holds heavy safety gates and industrial doors firmly in the closed retracted position, requiring an intentional air-release signal to unlock.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 160mm bore model when an application demands extreme thrust alongside fail-safe load holding; if lower force is acceptable, stepping down to a 125mm bore provides 8590N push at 0.7 MPa. Choose the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted position, whereas a SAILF variant is required for holding at the extended stroke end. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a terminal position, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

The lock is a static holding device that engages only after the cylinder has stopped, meaning it will not brake a moving rod. Crucially, avoid using fast-exhaust valves with this actuator; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the spring-driven pin. For any safety-critical lifting application, always implement an independent mechanical safety measure alongside the lock. Replacement specifications must match the 160mm bore, 200mm stroke, PT tapered ports, and the desired mounting style from the ISO 15552 compatible set (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2).

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X200S FAQ

At an operating pressure of 0.7 MPa, this 160mm bore cylinder generates a push force of 14074N and a pull force of 9425N. At 0.5 MPa, the push force is 10053N and the pull force is 9425N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the piston stops and is released automatically via air supply or manually via a lever; it does not clamp mid-stroke or brake moving loads.
