Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X600

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X600 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø160mm bore, 600mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X600

The AirTAC SAILB160X600 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically secures the piston rod at the retracted stroke end whenever release air is cut off. This power-failure safety mechanism holds the load without requiring live pressure. With a robust 160mm bore, it generates 14074N of push force and 9425N of pull force at 0.7 MPa.

The cylinder features a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads. It includes variable air cushions at both ends, but the locker-end cushion is notably shorter at 28mm compared to the 50mm cushion on the free end. Since this is a static holding device that engages only after the cylinder stops, it is not designed to brake a moving rod. For mid-stroke clamping requirements, a BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X600 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds heavy lifted platforms securely at the retracted rod-in position the moment air pressure drops, preventing sudden crashes.

factory

Heavy Clamp Retention

Maintains clamping force on large workpieces at the stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air.

shield

Gate Hold on Power Loss

Secures heavy safety gates in the closed retracted position during emergency power failures until release air is restored.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X600 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 160mm bore model when a large vertical load must be held safely at the retracted position during an air or power loss. If your application requires slightly less force, the 125mm bore offers 8590N push at 0.7 MPa; if more force is needed, the 200mm bore provides 21991N. Selecting the SAILB variant ensures the lock engages at the rod-in stroke end, whereas a SAILF variant secures the extended position.

Always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock, and never pair this cylinder with a fast-exhaust valve. For safety-critical lifting applications, add an independent mechanical safety measure alongside the lock. When replacing this unit, verify the 600mm stroke, back locker position, PT port threads, and standard carbon steel rod. Because the stroke is 600mm, ensure adequate side-load support by using external guide rails to prevent rod binding.

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X600 FAQ

At an operating pressure of 0.7 MPa, this 160mm bore cylinder generates a push force of 14074N and a pull force of 9425N. The maximum operating pressure is 1.0 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops and is unlocked automatically via air or manually via a lever. It does not clamp at mid-stroke; for that, use a BSAI cylinder.
