The AirTAC SAILB160X75-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock in the back cover. It generates 10053N of push force at 0.5MPa and features a carbon steel piston rod. The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it automatically engages to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end whenever release air is cut off.

This cylinder includes a -S magnet for position sensing, compatible with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state switches. Because the lock occupies the rear end, the variable air cushion on that side is shorter, measuring 28mm compared to the 50mm cushion on the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Choose this 160mm bore when an application requires substantial holding power at the retracted position without relying on continuous air pressure. If you need to secure the load at the extended stroke end instead, select the SAILF variant. For applications requiring mid-stroke clamping rather than end-of-stroke holding, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Ensure you use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve; fast-exhaust valves are strictly prohibited as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. For safety-critical vertical loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure.
