Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X100S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X100S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 100mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X100S

The AirTAC SAILB200X100-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, it secures heavy loads safely without requiring continuous live air pressure. In this 200 mm bore class, the cylinder generates a substantial 15708 N of push force and 15080 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it suitable for the heaviest industrial lifting tasks.

This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) for precise position sensing using AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state switches. The variable air cushion decelerates the massive moving load near the stroke terminals, with the locker-end cushion measuring 28 mm. It is important to remember the cushion only dampens end-of-stroke impact; the mechanical lock is the sole device responsible for static load holding.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

precision_manufacturing

Heavy Press Hold

Secures a massive press platen in the retracted position during power loss, utilizing the back-cover lock to prevent gravity-driven falls.

warehouse

Vertical Lift Safety

Maintains a raised heavy platform safely at the top stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air, cutting energy costs.

Clamp and Secure

Holds heavy industrial fixtures firmly in the retracted terminal position while workpieces are loaded or unloaded from the station.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X100S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200 mm bore cylinder when an application demands immense thrust alongside fail-safe load holding at the retracted position. If the full 15708 N push force at 0.5 MPa exceeds your requirement, stepping down to a 160 mm bore yields 10053 N while saving footprint, though you must ensure the smaller rod can handle the side loads. Choose SAILB to hold the rod-in position and SAILF if the extended rod-out position must be secured. If the mechanism requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead.

When integrating this model, strictly avoid fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the spring-driven lock; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. The 40 mm carbon steel rod and PT tapered 3/4 port provide robust fluid capacity and side-load resistance. For any safety-critical lifting scenario where human well-being depends on the load staying up, always add an independent mechanical safety measure beyond the pneumatic lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X100S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 200 mm bore cylinder provides a push force of 15708 N and a pull force of 15080 N. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 21991 N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it engages automatically to hold the rod at the retracted stroke end when release air is cut off. You can unlock it by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
