Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X150

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X150 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 150mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X150

The AirTAC SAILB200X150 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Designed for heavy-duty load holding, it secures the rod specifically at the retracted stroke end. In this 200mm bore class, it generates a substantial 15708N push force and 15080N pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it suitable for massive pneumatic applications.

The lock engages automatically when air pressure is cut, providing a static hold without requiring continuous live pressure. To release the rod, you supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, intentionally shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism. This model uses a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X150 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Vertical Lift Hold

Secures massive elevated loads in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing catastrophic drops in heavy machinery.

shield

Power-Out Safety Gate

Maintains a locked retracted state for heavy safety gates during facility power outages until air is deliberately restored to release the port.

factory

Press Clamping Station

Holds heavy industrial press blanks firmly at the retracted stroke end without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X150 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore cylinder when an application demands extreme force alongside fail-safe retracted holding. If 15708N at 0.5 MPa exceeds your requirement, stepping down to the 160mm bore yields 10053N of push force. Choose the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the rod-in position; select SAILF instead if the extended position must be held. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Because the lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, it will not act as a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: avoid fast-exhaust valves and use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock. For any safety-critical lifting application, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement specifications must match the 200mm bore, 150mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT port, and standard mounting interface.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X150 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 200mm bore provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 21991N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake, and is released by supplying air to the release port or using the manual lever.
