Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X160

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X160 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 160mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X160

The AirTAC SAILB200X160 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding heavy loads without relying on continuous live air pressure. In the 200mm bore class, it generates a substantial 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it suited for heavy-duty machinery. The standard carbon steel rod handles high side-loads, while the PT tapered port threads ensure rigid pneumatic connections.

A critical design detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (28mm) than the free end cushion (50mm), directly accommodating the lock mechanism. To release the rod, supply air to the release port for automatic unlocking, or use the manual release lever. Because this is a static holding lock that engages only after the cylinder stops, it cannot clamp a moving rod at an arbitrary mid-stroke point. Furthermore, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently lift the lock.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X160 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Power-Off Safety

Secures heavy vertical loads in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops in heavy machinery.

precision_manufacturing

Heavy Clamp Holding

Maintains massive clamping force at the rod-in stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air, saving energy during long hold cycles.

shield

Lift and Gate Locking

Provides a reliable static hold for elevated gates or lifting platforms, keeping them safely retracted until an intentional air-release signal is sent.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X160 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore model when an application requires massive load-holding at the retracted position; if lower force is acceptable, stepping down to a 160mm bore provides 10053N of push force at 0.5 MPa. Choose the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the rod-in position, whereas SAILF secures the extended position. If the design requires clamping at any intermediate mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead.

For safe integration, use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve rather than a fast-exhaust valve, ensuring back-pressure cannot release the lock. If human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, always add an independent safety measure. When replacing this unit, verify the 200mm bore, 160mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT ports, and the full ISO 15552 mounting interface (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2). Note that without the -S magnet option, CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors cannot be used for position detection.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X160 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 200mm bore provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa operating pressure, it achieves a push force of 3204 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops and is released automatically via air pressure or manually via a lever; it does not clamp mid-stroke.
