Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X225S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X225S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 225mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X225S

The AirTAC SAILB200X225-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. It delivers massive holding capability, generating 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at 0.5 MPa. The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it safely secures the load at the retracted stroke-end without requiring continuous live pressure. An internal magnet enables position sensing with AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic switches.

Unlike a standard SAI cylinder, this unit provides true power-failure safety. The variable air cushion at the locker end is specifically engineered shorter at 28 mm compared to the 50 mm cushion on the free end. To release the rod, you can supply air to the release port for automatic unlocking or utilize the manual override lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X225S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Safety

Holds massive vertical loads securely in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing catastrophic drops on heavy machinery.

factory

Press Retention

Maintains tremendous clamping force at the stroke end without consuming continuous air, ideal for high-tonnage pressing and holding.

shield

Gate Locking

Secures heavy industrial gates or safety barriers in the closed position mechanically, ensuring the barrier remains locked until released.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X225S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200 mm bore when your application demands extreme thrust and uncompromising load holding at the retracted position. If you require slightly less force, stepping down to a 160 mm bore yields 10053N of push at 0.5 MPa. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the rod must be mechanically trapped in the retracted stroke-end; choose SAILF if the extended position requires holding instead. If your process needs the rod clamped at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

This model operates at speeds of 30-500 mm/s. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For any safety-critical vertical lift, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement matches require a 200 mm bore, 225 mm stroke, back locker position, PT port threads, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X225S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 200 mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, it achieves a maximum push force of 3204 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging automatically to hold the rod at the retracted stroke-end when air pressure is cut. You can unlock it by supplying release air or using the manual lever; it is a static hold, not a mid-stroke clamp.
