Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 250mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250S

The AirTAC SAILB200X250-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock inside the back cover. Because this is a SAILB configuration, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages specifically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It delivers massive power, generating 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at a 0.5MPa operating pressure. The standard carbon steel rod handles high stress, and the -S magnet enables position detection via AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state sensors.

This unit provides true load-holding safety without relying on live air pressure. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. To accommodate the locking hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, which is shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end. You can release the lock automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Secures heavy elevated platforms instantly in the retracted position if air pressure drops, preventing uncontrolled descent.

factory

Heavy Press Hold

Maintains tremendous clamping force on large industrial presses at the rod-in stroke end without continuously consuming compressed air.

shield

Machine Guarding

Locks heavy safety gates and barriers securely in the closed position during power loss until the system is safely reset.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore when you need extreme force that smaller sizes cannot provide; for comparison, stepping down to a 160mm bore drops the 0.5MPa push force to 10053N. Select the SAILB variant when your application requires the load to be safely held at the rod-in position. If your process requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, choose the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead. For safety-critical vertical loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure alongside this cylinder.

Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder. You must use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, because back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. When ordering a replacement, verify the 200mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT port threads, and the -S magnet option. Although this 250mm stroke is well within standard limits, always use side-load guides to support the heavy 40mm carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250S FAQ

At a 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 200mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0MPa pressure, it delivers a maximum push force of 3204 kgf.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages statically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It does not clamp mid-stroke. Unlocking is achieved automatically by supplying release air to the port or manually via the release lever.
