Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X25S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X25S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 25mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X25S

The AirTAC SAILB200X25-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock engages at the retracted stroke end, it securely holds heavy retracted loads without requiring continuous live air pressure. In the 200 mm bore class, this actuator generates a substantial 15708 N of push force and 15080 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it suitable for massive lifting and holding tasks.

This model includes a magnet for position sensing, working seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state switches. A notable design detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (28 mm) than the free end (50 mm). The lock itself is a static holding device that engages only after the piston stops at the stroke terminal, rather than acting as a mid-stroke clamp or a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X25S Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Heavy Press Hold

Secures massive press platens in the retracted position during power loss, utilizing the back cover lock to prevent unintended descent.

warehouse

Load Retention

Maintains vertical lifting platforms safely at the rod-in stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air.

Safety Gate Lock

Keeps heavy industrial safety gates firmly closed and retracted, engaging the lock only after the piston reaches its terminal stop.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X25S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200 mm bore actuator when an application demands extreme force alongside fail-safe load holding in the retracted position. If 15708 N of push at 0.5 MPa exceeds your requirement, stepping down to the 160 mm bore yields 10053 N of push force while maintaining the same 30-500 mm/s speed range. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be secured at the rod-in position; choose SAILF instead if the extended rod-out position requires holding. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

For accurate replacement matching, verify the 200 mm bore, 25 mm stroke, back locker position, PT tapered port threads, and the -S magnet option. Crucially, do not use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the spring-driven lock pin. Furthermore, if human safety depends on the load remaining stationary, an independent mechanical safety measure must supplement the pneumatic lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X25S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 200 mm bore cylinder provides 15708 N of push force and 15080 N of pull force. It operates within a speed range of 30-500 mm/s.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops and can be unlocked automatically via air pressure or manually, but it cannot clamp at a mid-stroke position.
