Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 400mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400

The AirTAC SAILB200X400 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because this is a SAILB configuration, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages specifically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. With a 200mm bore, it generates 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at 0.5MPa, making it suited for heavy-load positioning. The lock engages automatically upon loss of release air to hold the rod in place, and you can supply air to the release port or use the manual override lever to disengage it.

This model uses a carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads. A notable design trait is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, which is shorter than the 50mm cushion found on the free end, optimizing end-of-stroke deceleration around the locking hardware. The lock itself provides a static hold after the cylinder stops; it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. For position feedback, adding a -S magnet enables compatibility with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy elevated loads in the retracted position automatically during a power loss, preventing gravity-driven falls.

build

Heavy Press Clamping

Holds a 15708N clamping force at the retracted stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Maintains a locked retracted barrier position on lifts or heavy safety gates until an air signal releases it.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore cylinder when an application requires holding a substantial load at the retracted position without maintaining live air pressure, stepping up from a 160mm bore that yields 10053N push at 0.5MPa. If the load must be clamped at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead. Always avoid fast-exhaust valves with this lock cylinder; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve because back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock. If human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, add an independent mechanical safety measure as well. To replace this unit, match the 200mm bore, 400mm stroke, back locker position, PT port threads, and the chosen mounting style from the Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, or TCM2 options. Given the 400mm stroke, use appropriate side-load guides to prevent rod deflection.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this 200mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 21991N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically at the retracted stroke end when release air is cut off. It does not clamp mid-stroke. Unlocking is achieved automatically by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
