About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400S

The AirTAC SAILB200X400-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air automatically drives a lock pin into the rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without requiring live pressure. Equipped with a magnetic piston, this unit triggers AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors for precise end-position verification.

Delivering 15708N of pull force at 0.5MPa, this 200mm bore actuator handles heavy vertical loads effortlessly. The variable air cushion at the locker end measures 28mm, which is intentionally shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking hardware. It operates at 30-500mm/s and utilizes a carbon steel rod with PT tapered port threads for robust industrial connectivity.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds heavy elevated platforms securely in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing catastrophic drops.

shield

Power Failure Hold

Maintains the position of safety gates and heavy guards during plant power outages without relying on continuous air supply.

factory

Heavy Press Clamping

Locks the press ram at the top stroke end after the cycle completes, ensuring the tool remains safely open during material loading.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore when substantial holding capacity is required; if your application needs less force, stepping down to a 160mm bore yields 9425N of pull at 0.5MPa. Choose this SAILB configuration to secure loads at the rod-in retracted position; select a SAILF variant instead if the load must be held at the extended rod-out stroke end. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke position rather than a static stroke-end hold, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. If human safety depends on the load remaining elevated, implement an independent mechanical safety measure as well. Since the 400mm stroke increases the lever arm, ensure adequate side-load guidance via external rails to prevent rod binding. Replacement matches require identical bore, stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and the -S magnet.

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X400S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this 200mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of pull force and 21991N of push force at 0.7MPa. The maximum operating pressure is 1.0MPa.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake. To unlock, supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever. Never use a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure can release the lock.
