Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X450

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X450 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 450mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X450

The AirTAC SAILB200X450 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, providing essential static load holding during a power or air loss. In the 200mm bore class, it generates a substantial 15708N thrust at 0.5MPa and safely sustains heavy vertical loads without requiring continuous live pressure.

Unlike a plain SAI cylinder, this SAIL variant incorporates a shorter 28mm variable air cushion at the locker end compared to the 50mm cushion on the free end, effectively managing end-of-stroke deceleration. The lock itself is a static holding device rather than a dynamic brake. For pneumatic routing, avoid fast-exhaust valves and use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, because back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock pin.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X450 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore model when an application demands 15708N of push force at 0.5MPa, or step down to a 160mm bore providing 10053N if the load is lighter. Choose this SAILB configuration to secure the rod at the retracted stroke end; if your process requires holding at the extended end, select the SAILF equivalent. For operations that must clamp at an arbitrary mid-stroke position rather than a stroke terminal, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative. Because the stroke is 450mm, integrating an external guide is highly recommended to prevent excessive side loads on the 40mm carbon steel rod. Always add an independent safety measure for human safety-critical suspended loads. Replacement specifications require matching the 200mm bore, 450mm stroke, PT tapered port threads, and the standard mounting interface.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X450 FAQ

At a 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 200mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of push thrust and 15080N of pull thrust. It achieves a maximum push force of 21991N at 0.7MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It is not a mid-stroke clamp or dynamic brake. You can unlock it automatically by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
