Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 50mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50

The AirTAC SAILB200X50 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This spring-applied, air-released mechanism engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding substantial loads up to 3204 kgf without requiring continuous live air pressure. You can release the lock pneumatically via the air port or override it manually.

Belonging to the 200mm bore class, this massive actuator provides a pull force of 15080N at 0.5MPa and a maximum push of 15708N. The extruded aluminum barrel includes sensor grooves on both sides for mounting CMSE reed or DMSE electronic switches, though this specific configuration omits the standard magnet. To accommodate the lock hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is notably shorter at 28mm compared to the 50mm cushion on the free end.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Vertical Lifts

Secures massive elevated loads in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops on heavy machinery.

shield

Press Safety Hold

Maintains a locked retracted state on large presses during power loss or maintenance cycles without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

build

Clamp and Secure

Holds heavy workpieces or structural gates firmly at the rod-in stroke end until the release air is actively supplied to unlock the mechanism.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore size when your application requires extreme holding force at the retracted position; stepping down to a 160mm bore reduces the 0.5MPa pull force to 9425N. Select the SAILB configuration specifically because the load must be secured in the rod-in state, whereas a SAILF variant would hold the extended position. If your machinery requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

Because the lock is a static holding device that engages only after the cylinder stops, it cannot brake a moving rod. For safe operation, do not use a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. If human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. When replacing this unit, verify the 50mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT port, and your required mounting style from the full ISO 15552 set.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50 FAQ

The 200mm bore provides a push force of 15708N and a pull force of 15080N at 0.5MPa. At the maximum operating pressure of 1.0MPa, it achieves a push force of 3204 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end. It engages as a static hold after the cylinder stops and can be unlocked automatically via air or manually, but it cannot stop a moving rod.
