Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 500mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500S

The AirTAC SAILB200X500-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because it carries the -S option, its internal magnet works seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors for precise end-position detection. Driven by a 40mm carbon steel rod, this 200mm bore generates 15708N of push force at 0.5MPa. The integrated lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it safely holds the load at the retracted stroke-end the moment release air is cut off.

A key mechanical detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (28mm) than the free end (50mm), engineered to decelerate the heavy 3204kgf class load before the lock engages. Remember that the cushion only slows the piston near travel ends; it is the mechanical lock that provides true static holding without live pressure. To unlock the rod, simply supply air to the release port or use the manual override lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Safety

Holds heavy lifted masses securely in the retracted position instantly upon loss of air pressure, preventing sudden drops.

shield

Power Failure Hold

Maintains the rod safely in the retracted end-state during power outages without requiring continuous compressed air supply.

build

Heavy Press Hold

Locks the retracted tooling in place under high static load, ensuring the press mechanism remains safely open during maintenance.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Step down to a 160mm bore if 10053N of push at 0.5MPa is sufficient, but keep this 200mm unit when maximum thrust is required. Choose this SAILB configuration when your machine must hold the load at the retracted rod-in position; select a SAILF variant instead if the extended rod-out end must be secured. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, use the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead. For a 500mm stroke, mounting must strictly manage side loads—use a FA or FB front-nose bracket combined with a guide rail to prevent rod binding.

This cylinder uses a 3/4 PT port and supports the full ISO 15552 mounting set (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2). Critical valve selection: never pair this cylinder with a fast-exhaust valve. You must use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, because back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the spring-applied lock. Finally, if human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, always add an independent mechanical safety measure beyond the cylinder's lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, it provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum operating pressure of 1.0MPa, the push force reaches 3204kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released. It engages only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover, providing a static hold. It is unlocked automatically by supplying release air or manually via the lever.
