Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 50mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50S

The AirTAC SAILB200X50-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover. When release air is cut, the internal lock engages to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end, making it ideal for heavy vertical load-holding during power loss. It delivers massive thrust, pushing with 15708N and pulling with 15080N at 0.5 MPa.

This 200mm bore unit features a carbon steel rod and a -S magnet for position sensing with CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches. The variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (28mm) than the free end (50mm) to accommodate the locking hardware. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Power Failure Hold

Maintains vertical loads securely at the retracted stroke end if air supply drops, preventing heavy masses from crashing down.

shield

Press Safety Lockout

Locks the press ram in the retracted position during maintenance or emergency stops, ensuring the tool stays open without relying on live air pressure.

factory

Clamp and Secure End Position

Provides a rigid, pressure-free hold at the stroke terminal for large industrial clamps that must not drift once positioned.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore model when your application requires extreme force and a fail-safe hold at the retracted position; if you need the rod locked when extended, select the SAILF equivalent. If your process requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, use the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead. The SAIL lock holds the load without live pressure, but human-safety critical applications still require an independent secondary safety measure.

For replacement, verify the 50mm stroke, back locker position, PT tapered port threads, and the -S magnet. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves with this cylinder; back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. Despite the short 50mm stroke, the heavy 200mm piston generates substantial mass, so always verify your mounting interface (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, or TCM2) handles the inertial loads.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X50S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the 200mm bore provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 21991N, and it reaches a maximum push force of 3204 kgf at 1.0 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops and is unlocked automatically via air supply or manually via a lever; it does not clamp mid-stroke.
