Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X75S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X75S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 75mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X75S

The AirTAC SAILB200X75-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock engages at the retracted stroke end, it securely holds massive loads in the rod-in position without requiring continuous live air pressure. In the 200 mm bore class, this actuator generates a 0.5 MPa push force of 15708 N and a maximum push capacity of 3204 kgf at 1.0 MPa.

This model includes a magnet (-S) for position sensing with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic switches. A key design trait of the SAIL series is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (28 mm) than at the free end (50 mm). The standard carbon steel rod handles high axial stresses, and the lock can be released automatically via air pressure or manually via the lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Heavy Lift Power-Loss Safety

Secures elevated heavy machinery platforms in the retracted position instantly if air pressure drops, preventing catastrophic falls.

Safety Gate Hold

Maintains a closed safety barrier on heavy industrial ovens by locking the rod in the retracted state until an intentional air release signal is sent.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X75S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200 mm bore actuator when an application demands extreme thrust alongside fail-safe load holding at the retracted position. If the 15708 N push force at 0.5 MPa exceeds your requirement, stepping down to a 160 mm bore yields 10053 N, offering a more compact footprint. Choose this SAILB configuration specifically to secure the rod-in stroke end; select a SAILF variant instead if the load must be held at the extended position. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a terminal position, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Remember that the SAIL lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this unit, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. Always employ an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For safety-critical lifting applications, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement specifications require a 200 mm bore, 75 mm stroke, back locker position, PT tapered ports, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X75S FAQ

At a 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 200 mm bore provides a push force of 15708 N and a pull force of 15080 N. At its maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, the push force reaches 28274 N, equivalent to 3204 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the piston stops and is released by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
