Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 80mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80

The AirTAC SAILB200X80 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. It delivers immense thrust, generating 15080N of pull force at 0.5MPa and up to 28274N at 0.9MPa. A carbon steel rod and PT tapered port come as standard on this large-bore unit. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air drives a pin into the rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without requiring live pressure.

This static holding mechanism engages only after the piston stops at the stroke terminal, meaning it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, intentionally shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the lock hardware. For position sensing, adding a -S magnet enables compatibility with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Vertical Lift Hold

Secures massive elevated loads in the retracted position automatically during air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops.

build

Press Clamping

Holds heavy workpieces firmly at the retracted stroke end without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Maintains a locked retracted state on large industrial safety barriers until the air-release port is actively pressurized.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore size when an application requires maximum load handling, stepping up from a 160mm bore that yields 9425N pull at 0.5MPa. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the retracted, rod-in position. If your workflow demands clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead of this stroke-end-only lock.

When integrating this cylinder, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. Always confirm the exact lock holding-force from the datasheet, and if human safety depends on the load staying retracted, add an independent safety measure. Replacement parts must match the 200mm bore, 80mm stroke, back locker position, PT port thread, and standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, the push force is 15708N and the pull force is 15080N. At 0.9MPa, the push force is 28274N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It statically holds the rod only at the retracted stroke end after the cylinder stops. Unlocking occurs automatically by supplying air to the release port or via the manual release lever.
